Theology & Religious Studies: specialization Evangelical and Reformation Theology
Are you interested in the practice of faith and do you feel that you are part of the evangelical movement? Do you want to explore church, Bible and theology on an academic level? Do you want to know your own evangelical roots and to broaden your horizon by meeting other denominations? Then this is your Master’s specialization programme.
Are you a minister already and do you want to have more background knowledge? Are you interested in evangelical work in a church or a Christian organization? Do you want to become a teacher, preacher or work as an editor, and are you already employed? Then the part-time variant of this programme is a good choice for you.
Do you want to become a committed theologian in a postmodern culture?
Living in a largely post-Christian and secularized culture, Christians from the West are sometimes surprised to see the explosive growth of Evangelical and Charismatic churches in other parts of the world and outside mainstream churches. With today’s renewed interest in personal spirituality, the postmodern emphasis on context and community, and the renewed vision of the church as a missionary community, Evangelical church leaders and theologians have a unique opportunity to contribute to the issues that face today’s church and society. As theology is a matter of both heart and mind, we believe that a firm commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the academic study of theology at the highest level should go hand in hand.
The added value of the Master's
The programme is geared towards the advanced study of theology, both contemporary and classical. In addition to two specialized courses in Evangelical Theology and a course in general research skills, you will take courses in topics of general interest, selected to establish the connections and differences between the various traditions and disciplines in the field of Christian theology. These courses will provide you with a broad perspective on this field and enable you to locate your own research topic within the complex network of interrelated theological issues. Although a knowledge of biblical languages is not an entrance requirement for this specialization, previous training in Greek and Hebrew is required for some optional subjects (e.g. Exegesis OT and NT).
