Momently I have two fields of research. The first one is the theology of Paul with as prism his conversions/call. The second field is the message of the Old Testament prophets especially with regard to the covenant

CV

Pieter de Vries was born 23 April 1956 in Kinderdijk, a small village in the western part of the Netherlands. From 1974 tot 1981 he studied at the theological faculty and the faculty of Semitic languages of the State University of Utrecht. In 1980 he passed the exam required in order to become a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church. In 1981 he received the degree of Doctorandus of Theology (to be compared with the degree of Master of Theology). In 1989 a revised and extended version of the thesis he wrote for this degree, was published in Dutch. In 1994 an English translation came out by Peter Lang under the title John Bunyan on the Order of Salvation

From 1980 to 1982 Pieter de Vries was an assistant-pasto­r in a congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church. In the same period, he taught Hebrew on what is now the Wartburg College in Rotterdam. Since 1982 he is an ordained minister of the Dutch Reformed Church. The same year he married Margret­ha Sterrenburg. They have a son and three daughters. In 1999 he received a Ph. D. at the Theological University of Apeldoorn. The subject of his thesis was The significance of Union and Communion with Christ in the Theology of John Owen (1616-1683). His promoter was prof. dr. Willem van ’t Spijker. Besides that, he has written several books and many articles covering diverse aspects of Biblical and Reformed faith and practice. He also wrote some smaller books and a number of articles on apologetics.

In 2010 Pieter de Vries received a second Ph. D. Degree at the University of Amsterdam. The field of this second dissertation was not the history of the church and its theology, but Hebrew and the Old Testament The subject of his second dissertation was the glory of the Lord in the Old Testament and especially in the book of Ezekiel. The supervisor of his second dissertation was prof. dr. Athalya Brenner. A revised version of this dissertation was published by Brill in 2015.

Since 1 September 2005 is De Vries is part time lecturer of biblical theology and hermeneu­tics at the Seminary of the Dutch Reformed Church (Continuing) (Hersteld Hervormde Kerk) (since May 2004 the confessional continuation of the Dutch Reformed Church) connected with the Free University of Amsterdam. Till September 2009 he also thought apologetics. Besides that he serves as a pastor the local con­gre­gation of the Reformed Church (Continuing) of Boven-Hardinxveld.
