Theology (MA)
The Master Arts in Theology offers a program of one year (60 EC). The program contains seven subprograms:
- Bible Translation (BT)
- Church Ministry (CM)
- Cross-Cultural Theology (CCT) (not offered in 2012-2013)
- Divinity (DV) (not offered in 2012-2013)
- Evangelical and Reformation Theology (ERT)
- Living Reformed Theology (LRT)
- Pentecostal Studies (PS) (not offered in 2012-2013)
Note: The subprograms Cross-Cultural Theology, Divinity, and Pentecostal Studies are no longer offered as of 2012-2013.
Students choose one of these subprograms in which to specialize or major. Instruction is in English unless all the students enrolled for a particular course are Dutch-speaking. Dutch-speaking students may always use Dutch for their papers, examinations, and master's thesis. All other students must use English.
Aims
The Master of Theology program seeks to enable students:
- to acquire a thorough theoretical foundation in the subjects that belong to the chosen subprogram (Bible Translation, Living Reformed Theology, Evangelical and Reformation Theology, Cross-Cultural Theology, Pentecostal Studies, Church Ministry, and Divinity);
- to reflect theologically and critically on the issues that pertain to the chosen subprogram and to place them in a multi-disciplinary frame of reference;
- to make independent critical judgments on the basis of limited data and with an eye on the social and ethical implications;
- to communicate the results of research efforts to diverse audiences of specialists and non-specialists;
- to conduct independent scholarly research within the area of the chosen subprogram.
